Pyran Secures Letters of Intent and Additional Production Capacity to Meet Market Demand
MADISON, Wisc., [Sept. 23, 2025] – Building on its commitment to deliver cost-effective and high-performance biobased materials, renewable chemicals company Pyran, Inc. recently secured additional letters of intent for its 1,5 Pentanediol (1,5 PDO) and expanded its toll manufacturing capabilities to meet growing market demand.
“Our market traction is stronger than ever,” said Kevin Barnett, Pyran co-founder and chief technology officer. “Our ability to secure multiple letters of intent and additional toll manufacturing capacity are critical steps in scaling our operations effectively and continuing our leadership in the biobased market.”
Increased Market Demand
Pyran has secured letters of intent from customers across multiple industries, surpassing its initial production targets and paving the way for broad market adoption. Driven by the combination of renewable sourcing, cost advantages, and strong performance attributes, demand for Pyran’s products continues to accelerate. Notably, Pyran’s biobased 1,5 PDO now matches the color performance of petroleum-derived 1,5 PDO and 1,6 Hexanediol (1,6 HDO), offering customers a sustainable alternative without compromising quality.
Expanded Production Capabilities
To keep pace with this growing demand, Pyran has expanded its toll manufacturing operations, enabling production of hundreds of tons over the next two years. This scale-up not only addresses near-term customer requirements but also validates Pyran’s thermocatalytic technology on commercially relevant chemical assets. The company’s expansion strategy ensures that production capacity evolves in lockstep with market needs, reinforcing its ability to deliver at scale.
Advancing Sustainable Cost Leadership
Pyran delivers a cost-advantaged alternative to traditional petroleum-based products, made possible through continuous refinements to its proprietary thermocatalytic production technology. These advancements drive new efficiencies, directly translating into meaningful cost savings for customers.
“We remain well-positioned to meet increasing demand across industries for our sustainable alternatives, and our ability to innovate and scale efficiently is a core strategic advantage,” said Pyran CEO Mel Luetkens. “Expanding our toll manufacturing capacity and refining our production processes are part of our strategy.”
Ongoing Advancements, Growth, and Investment
In addition to strong market traction and expanded toll production, Pyran’s recently completed life cycle assessment (LCA) confirmed up to a 99% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for its biobased 1,5 PDO compared to petroleum-derived diols. Notably, technology improvements alone accounted for 82% of this reduction when measured against the conventional, complex petrochemical process. Further underscoring its sustainability leadership, Pyran’s 1,5 PDO has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label, verifying it as a 100% biobased material.
Pyran has also completed FEL 3 Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for commercial-scale production and successfully validated its technology at demonstration scale. The company has produced tons of biobased products and is actively supplying 1,5 PDO to select, pre-approved customers for qualification in targeted markets and applications. To date, Pyran has raised approximately $12.5 million in total investments, providing the foundation to advance its technology from demonstration to commercial scale. To further support this growth, the company is offering a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) note to investors as it prepares for its next phase of expansion.
Pyran uses readily available intermediates from non-food, renewable feedstocks, such as corn cobs, wood, and sugarcane bagasse, to make 1,5 PDO, enhancing the performance of everyday products such as paints, coatings, adhesives, and more. The company’s renewable 5-carbon products, including 1,5 PDO, replace expensive and supply-constrained petroleum-based chemicals.
