  • Pyran’s 100% biobased 1,5 Pentanediol can replace 1,4 butanediol in poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) to produce poly(pentylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PPAT).

    PPAT made with Pyran’s 1,5 Pentanediol is biobased, has a virtually indistinguishable degradation profile compared to PBAT, and can be used in a range of film and rigid applications where biodegradability (soil degradable and industrially compostable) is needed.

    PPAT has double the Young’s modulus of PBAT without any loss of ultimate elongation, eliminating the need for blending with polylactic acid (PLA) to improve mechanical properties. The lack of PLA in PPAT formulations also improves PPAT’s biodegradability over PBAT/PLA blends.
